Shaelyn (Shae) Foy, MS
Hi there! I’m Shae, a Master of Social Work student at Aurora University and current intern here at FJ Psychological Services. I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh – Johnstown, where I also played collegiate volleyball (yes, I still have a competitive streak!).
Through my academic journey, I’ve gained a strong understanding of mental health, human development, and trauma-informed care. My education has taught me not only the clinical foundations of assessment and intervention, but also the importance of empathy, cultural humility, and meeting people where they are. In both undergrad and graduate school, I’ve explored how early experiences shape us, how resilience can be built, and how systems impact the lives of individuals and families. This knowledge has strengthened my ability to support clients with curiosity, intention, and care.
Before beginning my internship, I worked for over a year as an intake coordinator and case manager at The Association for Individual Development. I also served as a 1:1 support staff at the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association. These experiences gave me the opportunity to support children and teens with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and behavioral challenges further deepening my commitment to neurodiversity-affirming and strengths-based care.
I’ve always felt drawn to working with kids, adolescents, their families and groups. Their honesty, creativity, and ability to bounce back from life’s curveballs inspire me every single day. I strive to create a space where young people feel safe, seen, and supported as they explore their emotions, build confidence, and grow into their authentic selves whether that’s through talk, play, or shared laughter.
Outside of sessions, you’ll usually find me out in nature, dancing at a concert, curating the perfect playlist, or capturing life through a camera lens. And at home, I share life with my cat Donkey (yes, named after the loud, lovable sidekick from Shrek), who keeps things unpredictable and always entertaining.
I bring heart, curiosity, and creativity into the work I do and I’m truly honored to support kids and families on their journey toward healing and hope.
