Shelley Johnson, LPC

Shelley received a double master’s degree in both General Psychology and Counseling Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL in 2012 and 2016. Shelley has 10 years of experience working in the behavioral health field, with 6 years working as a therapist and crisis (SASS) worker with the Lake County Health Department, Child and Adolescent Behavioral Services.
Shelley has considerable experience working with a wide array of topics including mood disorders such as anxiety and depression, ADHD, LGBTQ+ topics, communication, and relationships. She offers services in individual, family, and group settings. She is open to working with any age group but has extensive experience with individuals from 5-21.
Shelley is a single mom of 4 year old, twin girls. She enjoys sports (both watching and playing), movies, music, and the theatre. There is nothing better than a live show, in her opinion. She spends her time with family and friends, but especially enjoys watching her girls learn and grow. Shelley is also a native of McHenry and is very excited to help and give back to her community and its members.
Shelley approaches each day as a new experience. She is client centered, compassionate, open-minded, and strives to meet individuals on their level. She is passionate about helping others find their voice, growing through experience, and not avoiding the things that make us uncomfortable. Shelley believes that mental wellness is a journey; and if one is willing to put in the effort, anything can be achieved.
